What's Sports Safety?

Playing sports can be fun, but it can also be dangerous if you are not careful. You can help prevent injuries by

• Getting a physical to make sure you are healthy before you start playing your sport

• Wearing the right shoes, gear, and equipment

• Drinking lots of water

• Warming up and stretching

If you have already hurt yourself playing a sport, make sure you recover completely before you start up again. If possible, protect the injured part of your body with padding, a brace, or special equipment. When you do start playing again, start slowly. (NIH)

What Safety gear need for sports safety?

Safety gear should be sport-specific. It may include such items as goggles, mouth guards, shin-elbow-knee pads, and helmets. The safety gear should fit properly. Sports equipment (such as bats, baskets, and goals) should also be in good working condition. Any damage should be repaired or the item should be replaced. The playing area should be free from debris and water.

Why is sport safety important?

Safety precautions and equipment can be instrumental in preventing or lessening injuries from sporting activities. The environment in which sports are played also has an impact on injury risks.
